Scrolls Discussion I really never thought it was OP...
That is, until today.
Was in a Judgement match. Played super well, opponent wasn't really doing anything, I dominated the board. This was a clear win.
Suddenly... Quake.
Wasn't expecting it in Judgement (individual rares just don't show up very often), and so being back to zero was a shock... but OK, that's cool, that's what Quake is for. Growth can't win if it's lost the board, it's a recovery mechanic, blah blah, I've made the arguments a hundred times. Quake is, technically, not OP.
I started putting stuff back on the board. Played super well again, in fact even better. But I had this bad feeling... and then it hit me. Judgement decks only have 30 scrolls. That one Quake was going to pop up again soon, and soon again after that. It was always going to be there.
I kept going anyway. I dominated the board even more completely this time, it was insane. Two Coils behind another unit, a Bear Paw'd Scatter gunner behind two Ragged Wolves, a Library behind a Wolf with a Siege Cracker behind them, while my opponent had pretty much nothing...
My doom was inevitable.
No matter how well I played, it was never going to matter. Every time I would manage to build some sort of force, my board was simply going to be cleared.
I almost never Surrender "early". But after that second Quake, I drew a bunch of slow-acting stuff and I just didn't feel like continuing with the match. If I'm going to spend my time on a game, it's normally because it's *fun*.
This wasn't.
I usually feel pretty good and relaxed after a gaming session, but now I'm depressed, frustrated and stressed out.
I wasn't a big fan of Judgement aside from the fact that it helped with a big issue the game currently has (scroll distribution). I was usually pretty good at it (bunch of 3 wins, three 4 wins, one 2 win), but I didn't enjoy it that much at the best of times.
After this I think it's pretty clear it's time to give up on the mode entirely. They can't increase Quake's rarity to deal with the problem like they did with Burn and Languid.
I love Scrolls. Remarkable game. It's attractive and strategic and...
...and **** like this means I don't enjoy playing it.
